HGCS: What got you interested in caching?
Sky Rookie: A friend of mine updated her Facebook page to say that she was going out Geocaching tonight and if anyone wanted to tag along give her a call. I went night caching with her for my first caching experience. After that, on the way home, I stopped at Wal-Mart and bought a GPS. When that GPS didn’t work for geocaching, I returned it and ordered my GPSMap60CSx. I was hooked!
HGCS: How did you decide on your caching name?
Sky Rookie: I’ve used this name for my online identities for years now. The “Sky” part of the name comes from skydiving; I’ve been a skydiver since 1997. The rookie part of my name came from my previous career; I was fresh out of technical college and worked with other men much older then me. They all called me “Rookie Boy” and I began to wear that as a badge of honor around them. Although they got me back when at the company Christmas party I was too young to drink. After leaving the company I thought of myself new at skydiving too so I put the two together and arrived at “Sky Rookie”.
HGCS: When you cache, what equipment do you use? (PDA, Garmin, Magellan, software)
Sky Rookie: I use a Garmin GPSMap60CSx for my GPS, I also use GSAK to organize my cache list and to load all my waypoints into my GPS.
